What It Means to Earn the Certified Youth Investment Analyst (CYIA™) Designation

Earning the Certified Young Investment Analyst (CYIA™) Designation is a mark of excellence and distinction in personal finance and investing. Achieving this honor demonstrates that you have:

Qualifications to become a Certified Young Investment Analyst (CYIA™)

To become a Certified Young Investment Analyst (CYIA™), students must demonstrate commitment, knowledge, and real-world investing experience. Requirements include:

  1. Active Membership

    • Be a member of the Young Investors Society and complete all YIS courses and lessons.

  2. CYIA™ Exam

    • Pass the 60-question CYIA™ exam (approximately 50% pass rate).

    • Exam Schedule: Quarterly – January, April, August, November

    • Format: Online, timed (1 hour), multiple choice

    • Suggested Study Time: ~50 hours

  3. Practical Experience

    • Participate in a YIS State or Regional Stock Pitch Competition.

    • Complete the Dollar-A-Day Challenge by opening an investment account and actively saving/investing your own money.

  4. Recommendations & Leadership

    • Submit a Letter of Recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor,  or YIS advisor.

    • Complete 10 hours of community service.

  5. Academic Excellence

    • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).

  6. Final Interview

    • Conduct a final interview with a YIS Board Member.

Achieving the CYIA™ Designation shows that you are not only knowledgeable in investing but also disciplined, engaged, and prepared for success in college and beyond.

CYIA™ Online Exam Information

The Certified Young Investment Analyst (CYIA™) Exam is a 60-minute, open-book, timed test based on:

Exam Schedule:

  • The exam is offered quarterly in January, April, August, and November.

Important Exam Details:

  • Some questions require the use of a calculator.

  • The exam must be completed in a single session—you cannot pause or restart once it begins.

  • You may take the exam only once per open period.

  • A 70% passing score is required to pass.
